Brushstroke expeditions

Feeling flustered this lockdown? So much to do, places to go and the restrains of lockdown.

Take flight my friend, solitude elevates creativity, you just have to loose those initial inhibitions. Art can beam one into their desired LA LA land.

Some of the most famous works of highly decorated artist is a product of a pandemic. The self-portrait by Edvard Munch capturing himself in the Spanish flu is a class apart. The Kiss by Gustav Klimt is awesome as is Anthony Van Dyck’s portrait of Emaneul Filibert. The list is long and would be incomplete without mentioning Titian’s Pieta; The Pietà now in the Gallerie dell’Accademia in Venice is one of the last paintings by the Italian master. It was completed by Palma Giovane, whose interventions have been kept to the minimum necessary, and doing his best to match Titian's style.

French artist Nathalie Lété, chose her country house as her canvas to transform it into a botanical wonderland.

Art lovers around the world have found a way to unite and stay creative: by recreating classic artworks. Iana replaced the parrots in Frida Kahhlo’s classic “Me and My Parrots “ with detergents. Several social media ‘challenges’ have gone viral online by institutions like the Getty Museum and Tussen Kunst & Quarantine on Instagram. The bug has bitten celebrities alike with Ranveer Singh doing a fine attempt at none other than Vincent Van Gogh’s self-portrait.

Then actors / writers are expected to be creative and more inclined to explore their hand at varied art forms. However the pandemic in all it’s gloom has prompted all to tap into their creativity be it in cooking, painting, writing, the social media accounts are exploding with posts / videos of their boast worth creation.

The triumph of creating something from a scratch is beyond compare and the adulation one receives from sharing on social media is heady. Gloom affects us as we work our way through the lockdown, art bridges the gaps between their despair and their desires till the space almost disappears, it emerges from darkness, to a flickering hope.

A painting much like a book makes it compelling upon the viewer / reader to extract the layers of meaning embedded therein. It allows you to play the adventurer despite being static.

Nothing cripples a creative mind, stay inspired !
